Streetwear - Knit Fabric

Brief
Design and make a streetwear garment from knit fabric.

Specifications
 It must be a single garment using knit fabric/s throughout.
  It must reflect a current streetwear trend.
 It must fit and suit the body shape of the wearer.
  It must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used.
  It must have impact on stage..

Recycled Jeans

Brief
Recycle a pair of denim jeans into another garment or accessory.

Specifications
  It must be a single wearable garment.
  It must have a wearable and functional finish.
 It must use a single pair of jeans,no other additional denim fabric to be used.
 It must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used.
 It may include other fabrics as appropriate to design..

Street Wear

Brief
Design and make a streetwear outfit that reflects an Asian influence.

Specifications
 It must be a full outfit. (i.e. no other garment should be required to complete the outfit,
    although accessories that enhance impact on stage may be used).
 It must reflect an Asian influence.
 Please note; this could include Asian designers, fabrics, styles.
 You must be able to explain your influence.
  It must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used.
  It must fit and suit the body shape of the wearer.
 It must have impact on stage.

Black and White

Brief
Design and make a wearable, functional, day wear outfit that reflects the theme of Black and White .

Specifications
  It must be a full outfit, suitable for daywear.(no other garment should be required to complete the outfit, although accessories that enhance impact on stage may be used).
  It must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used.
  It must fit and suit the body shape of the wearer.
 It must have impact on stage.
  It must be black and white, no other colours to be used.

Nurtured by Nature

Brief
Design and make an outfit using 100% natural fibres e.g. Linen, Silk, Cotton, Wool, Leather or a combination.
This outfit should be unique and set a trend along the lines of garments typically showcased at Air New Zealand Fashion Week.

Evening Wear

Brief
Design and make an outfit suitable for a selected formal evening function.

Specifications
 It must be a full outfit(no other garment should be required to complete the outfit, although accessories that enchance impact on stage may be used) .
  It must be suitable for the chosen formal evening function.
  The garment must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used .
 It must fit and suit the body shape of the wearer
 It must have impact on stage

Upcycle

Brief
Take a discarded garment/s and upcycle* to create a unique outfit that still references the orginal ie. uses the features of the initial garment/s.

* Upcycling increases the value of the orginal design.

Specifications
 It must be a full outfit(no other garment should be required to complete the outfit, although accessories that enchance impact on stage may be used) .
  It must use existing clothing and or items. ( Before and after photo required with entry.).
  The garment must be constructed using skills appropriate to the materials used. .
 It must fit and suit the body shape of the wearer.
 It must demonsrate innovation and individuality.

ART ~ Fantasy

Brief
Design and make a piece of fabric art to be hung on a wall which reflects the theme of fantasy

Specifications
 Must be no bigger than A2.
 Must be able to be hung on the wall.
  It must include some fabric and textile items. Other media may be used.
  It must reflect the chosen theme.

ART ~ Art

Brief
Design and make a piece of fabric art to be hung on a wall which incorporates the selected fabic. Students can chose their own theme for the wall hanging.

Note:
The fat 1/8 of fabric can be purchased from your teacher or Bernina Tauranga Sewing Centre

Global Connexions Design Award

This award will recognise emerging young designers. Teachers will nominate the entrants into this section. All year 11-13 entrants are eligible for selection. This award will be judged on the following criteria

Specifications
 Flair.
 Impact on stage.
  Originality.
  Innovation.
  Creative use of materials.
  Understanding of how materials perform in design.

Years 9 - 10, Years 11 - 13 ~ Workmanship Award

This award recognizes the talent and high standard of workmanship amongst our students. Teachers will nominate the entrants for both the junior and senior sections. This award will be judged on the following criteria:

Specifications
 Correct use of techniques on chosen fabric.
 Accuracy in techniques.
  Degree of difficulty.
  Finish on garment.
  Fit on the model.
